Yes, this site is VERY old, I have big plans to update it (I have my new site set up but I have yet to migrate all this old stuff over), I'm afraid my priorities are with the Dogsbody Hosting and Camberley Skaters sites at the moment.

Finger Client

I must admit that I was quite proud of this acheivement. Finger is a tool that can be used for getting basic information from a system, for example the users that are logged in, status information or how much mail is held on a system. I have even heard reports of being able to check stock in a drinks machine using finger although I haven't found any good examples in the net yet!!

I have been wanting to add a finger script to my site for ages but the ISP I was using at he time wouldn't let me run standard UNIX apps like finger so this ment that I had to entirely build the program in Perl down to the socket layer!! After a couple of nights staring at malformed TCP requests I finally got it. There was much rejoycing!!...... Now that I am hosting this site on my own server I guess I should should replace it with a query to the propper linux app as people actually use this page quite a lot... but it was my script and I love it :-) (I did fix some bugs though!)
